I didn't just research Mexico.
I moved there.

ClearPath to Mexico exists because I went through this process myself — the research, the anxiety, the paperwork, and ultimately the extraordinary joy of building a life in a country I fell in love with. I created the guidance I wish I'd had.

My Story

Like a lot of people who end up moving to Mexico, I didn't plan it. It started as a trip — maybe two trips — and gradually became a question I couldn't stop asking myself: What if I actually lived here?

I was drawn to the pace of life, the warmth of the culture, the food, the color of the streets, and an affordability that made a different kind of life genuinely possible. But when I started seriously researching a move, I was overwhelmed. The internet offered opinions and anecdotes but rarely clear, trustworthy, end-to-end guidance. I spent countless hours, weeks, and months piecing together information from forums, Facebook groups, and YouTube videos — some helpful, much of it contradictory.

I did the research to find the mistakes and time wasting decisions people were making. Eventually, through persistence, local connections, and a lot of trial and error, I got through it. I secured my residency, found my neighborhood, set up my life — and realized that the process didn't have to be nearly as hard as I'd made it.

Why I Started ClearPath

Once I was settled, I started hearing from friends, family, and eventually strangers who were contemplating the same move. They had the same fears I'd had, the same overwhelming flood of Google results, the same uncertainty about where to even start. I found myself spending hours on the phone walking people through what I'd learned.

ClearPath to Mexico is the formalization of that. It's the service I wished had existed when I was planning my own move — clear, honest, experience-based guidance from someone who has actually been through it. Not a travel blog. Not a generic checklist. A real person, with real local knowledge and a real network, helping you navigate one of the most exciting decisions of your life.

What I Bring to Every Client

I bring first-hand experience with the residency process, including the consulate appointment, the in-Mexico INM process, and the document requirements that trip most people up. I bring direct knowledge of multiple cities and areas across Mexico — their neighborhoods, their real costs, their expat communities, and their honest trade-offs. And I bring a network of trusted local professionals — vetted attorneys, real estate agents, healthcare providers, and community connectors — built through living and working in this country.

Most importantly, I bring a genuine investment in your outcome. When a client calls me six months after their move to tell me they've never been happier, that's the whole point.

What ClearPath Stands For

These aren't company values plastered on a wall — they're the principles that shape every conversation, every recommendation, and every client relationship.

🎯

Honest Over Optimistic

Mexico is wonderful. It's also a different country with real bureaucratic complexity, safety considerations that vary by region, and cultural adjustments that take time. We give you the full picture — not just the highlights.

🤝

Personalized, Not Generic

A retired couple moving to Mérida for the culture needs completely different guidance than a remote worker heading to CDMX's tech scene. Every client's situation is unique and every roadmap we build reflects that.

🔗

Connected, Not Just Informed

Information is everywhere. What's rare is a trusted, vetted local network. We connect you with real professionals who we know personally — attorneys, agents, doctors, and community members who will take care of you.

⏱️

Your Pace, Not Ours

Some clients are moving in three months. Others are two years out and still in the dreaming phase. We meet you exactly where you are and provide support calibrated to your actual timeline.

📞

Ongoing, Not One-and-Done

The questions you have on arrival are different from the ones at month three, which are different again at month six. We offer options designed to support you through the full arc of your transition.

🇲🇽

Deep Respect for Mexico

We're guests in this country, and we carry that responsibility seriously. We guide clients toward integration, cultural respect, and community participation — not the insular expat bubble that misses the entire point.

Things People Ask Before Reaching Out

Is Mexico actually safe to live in?
Safety in Mexico is highly location-specific and very different from what most US news coverage suggests. The expat cities we focus on — Mérida, San Miguel, Puerto Vallarta, parts of CDMX and Guadalajara — have excellent safety records and large, thriving international communities. We give you an honest, nuanced picture of safety in any area you're considering, including the parts of town to avoid and the local context that puts statistics in perspective.
Do I need to speak Spanish to move to Mexico?
In most popular expat destinations, you can get by with little or no Spanish — especially at first. That said, learning even basic Spanish dramatically improves your experience, your relationships with Mexican neighbors, and your ability to navigate everyday life. We provide language learning resources and honest guidance on how much Spanish you'll realistically need based on which city you choose.
Can foreigners own property in Mexico?
Yes — with some nuances. Foreigners can own property in most of Mexico directly. In "restricted zones" (within 100km of borders and 50km of coastlines — which includes many of the most desirable areas), ownership is handled through a bank trust called a fideicomiso, which functions similarly to a US land trust. We explain the full picture and connect you with attorneys who specialize in foreign property purchases.
What happens to my US healthcare coverage?
Medicare generally does not cover care outside the US. Most expats in Mexico rely on affordable, high-quality Mexican private healthcare — often paying out-of-pocket for routine care, and purchasing Mexican private health insurance for major events. We help you understand the full range of options, including international health insurance, Mexico's public IMSS system (which residents can join), and how to plan your healthcare transition thoughtfully.
Are you a licensed immigration attorney?
No — ClearPath to Mexico is a relocation consulting service, not a law firm. We provide guidance, preparation support, document checklists, and coaching through the residency process. For legal advice specific to your immigration situation, we work alongside and refer you to trusted, licensed immigration attorneys in our network. We're transparent about this distinction and make sure you have the right professional support at every stage.
How far in advance should I start working with you?
The earlier, the better — but there's no wrong time to start. Clients planning a move 12–24 months out benefit from having a clear roadmap early and time to prepare thoroughly. Clients with shorter timelines (3–6 months) often need more intensive support to move quickly and efficiently. We adjust to whatever stage you're at. A Discovery Consultation is the right starting point regardless of your timeline.
